KAPIT: The normally quiet and remote town of Song came to live as thousands packed the town to come together to celebrate and participate in the three-day dabai festival held from Dec 14-16.
Pesta Dabai Song, the first to be held in Song district, was organised by Kapit District Council (KDC) in collaboration with the various government agencies in the district.
Among the activities slotted for the festival on the first day and opening ceremony on Dec 14 were a dabai exhibition, cultural presentations and various performances.
On the following day, among the activities held were the best dabai competition, a dabai cooking competition, a competition to guess the number of dabai fruits, the Katibas Bridge fun run, a talent show, a colouring contest for children, the Song Strongman contest and various sporting events.
However, the main attraction and crowd puller was the powerboat competitions organised by the Kapit Division Powerboat Association that saw the participation of teams from Sibu, Sebauh, Kanowit, Kapit, Song and other areas.
A variety of events were lined up for the competition on Dec 15 which were the 50hp and below tunnel boat race, 30 hp and below tunnel boat race, 18 hp and below tunnel boat race and 35 hp and below two piston race.
Among those present at Pesta Dabai Song were Katibas assemblyman Datuk Ambrose Blikau Enturan and his wife Datin Marie Therese, council walikota Datuk Philimon Nuing, heads of various government agencies, councillors and community leaders.
