PADAWAN: Three men were arrested by police in two separate operations for suspected involvement in substance abuse on Friday.

Padawan district police chief Supt Aidil Bolhassan said the first arrest took place around 11am in a rented room at Cinmuk Commercial Centre, 7th Mile Bazaar, Jalan Penrissen.

He noted that two men aged 24 and 32 were arrested by a team from the Padawan Police Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division (NCID).

“During the arrest, we found a transparent box containing eight small plastic packets with crystalline substance inside them. We suspected the substance to be syabu with an estimated weight of 5.20g,” he said in a statement.

Aidil added that both individuals were tested positive for drugs and had admitted that they had been involved with substance abuse since 2019.

The second arrest involving a 30-year-old man was made by a team from the Padawan police NCID, at Kampung Haji Baki.

“The suspect was brought to Padawan narcotics headquarters and his urine test was found positive for methamphetamine. He also admitted to being involved in substance abuse since 2018,” he said.

Aidil further stated that all three individuals were not involved in trafficking drugs and are being placed in Siburan police station lock up.

The cases are being investigated under Section 39A (1) and Section 15 (1) (a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
