One of the seven smuggled buffaloes being loaded back to a lorry before they are handed over to the Lawas Veterinary Department Office.

LAWAS: Three men were detained for attempting to smuggle seven buffaloes from Sabah to here.

According to Lawas District Police chief, DSP Abang Zainal Abidin Abang Ahmad, the three men were attempting to smuggle seven buffaloes from Sabah to Lawas using the ‘jalan tikus’ at Merapok area which is bordering Sabah.

The three suspects aged 47, 58 and 44 years are from Limbang and Sindumin, Sabah.

‘An operation was conducted while the suspects were attempting to load the buffaloes onto a lorry which is believed to have been smuggled from Sabah.

“Police seized all the seven buffaloes, lorry and three hand phones belonging to the suspects,” Zainal told the media.

All the seized items were taken to Merapok police station and immigration post and the case is being inviesitgated under Section 28A, the Penal Code.

The three suspects are being detained at Lawas Police Station while the seven buffaloes have been handed over to the Veterinary Department for their further action.
