KUCHING: The Sarawak Immigration Department has arrested 18 foreigners, including seven women and three children, at separate locations around the district.

The operation, which took place between Tuesday (Sept 10) and Wednesday (Sept 11), targeted factories, eateries and residential houses around Gita, Padungan, Kota Samarahan, Bintawa, Sekama and Sungai Maong.

Acting on public complaints and gathered intelligence, the Kuching Immigration Enforcement Unit inspected a total of 78 individuals for valid documentation.

“Of the figure, 18 foreigners were taken into custody for overstaying, lacking valid travel documents and lacking valid permits to stay in Malaysia.

“The foreign detainees, comprising eight men, seven women and three children, are being investigated under the Section 6(1)(c) and Section 15(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63,” the department said.

In light of this, the public is encouraged to report any information regarding the presence of undocumented migrants in their areas through online channels or directly to the nearest Immigration Enforcement Office.
