KUCHING: The Bandar Kuching parliamentary seat will see a three-cornered fight in the 15th general election (GE15) between Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) candidate Eric Tay Tze Kok, Democratic Action Party (DAP) candidate Kelvin Yii Lee Wuen and Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB) candidate Voon Lee Shan.
The Election Commission (EC) returning officer Zainab Marzali made the announcement at the Kuching South City Council (MBKS) Community Hall here at 11.50am today.
“The candidates contesting in Bandar Kuching parliamentary seat; are Tay Tze Kok (GPS) Voon Lee Shan (PSB) and Kelvin Yii Lee Wuen (DAP),” she said.
Voon was the first to arrive at the nomination centre at 8.30am, accompanied by his proposer Lee Li Sia and seconder Lim Sing Yee.
Yii, 36, who is defending his seat; clad in red DAP’s red t-shirt arrived at 8.50am; with his proposer Violet Yong and seconder Choo Chiew Jun.
Meanwhile, Tay, 44, arrived at 9.08am where his candidacy was proposed by Lucas Yong Kuet Chung and seconded by Bong Lian Huan.
Tay, who is also the Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Kuching Branch Youth chief – is among the GPS’ new faces in GE15.
In Stampin, there will be a three-cornered fight between GPS candidate Lo Khere Chiang, who is also the Batu Kitang assemblyman, DAP chairman Chong Chieng Jen and Parti Bumi Kenyalang (PBK) Lue Cheng Hing.
The Election Commission (EC) returning officer Henry Jalin Watt made the announcement at the Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) nomination centre here at 11.50am today.
“After checking the nomination paper, I am satisfied and no nomination paper has been rejected,” he said.
Meanwhile, Lue will be using the PSB logo to contest in Stampin, instead of his own party logo.
