KUCHING: Sarawak recorded three deaths due to Covid-19 and 183 new cases today.
The latest cases bring the state’s tally to 12,855 while the death toll has increased to 94.
Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said the 92th death was Case 7,674, a 72-year-old local man, who was admitted to Sibu Hospital for fever, coughing, and breathing difficulties.
SDMC said his test results came back positive on Feb 19, and the man’s condition started deteriorating and he was pronounced dead on March 15. He also had comorbidities such as hypertension and heart disease.
The 93rd death was Case 11,319, an 82-year-old local man, who was admitted to Sibu Hospital after his rT-PCR (reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction) test was positive on March 8.

The 94th death, SDMC said, was Case 9,492, a 69-year-old local man.
He received treatment at Sibu Hospital after experiencing fever, coughing and loss of appetite.
A rT-PCR test was done and it came back positive on Feb 27. His health deteriorated and he was pronounced dead on March 15. He also had comorbidities such as hypertension and diabetes.
On the 183 new cases, SDMC said Sibu District recorded the highest with 73 followed by Miri (22), Bintulu (17), Kapit (17), Julau (12), Kuching (12), Meradong (seven), Betong (six), Samarahan (four), three each in Sarikei and Selangau, two each in Saratok and Sri Aman, and one each in Belaga, Dalat and Tanjung Manis.
A total of 23 people exhibited signs and symptoms of Covid-19 infection during screening.
SDMC also said a total of 154 cases or those detected were individuals had been directed to undergo quarantine.
They comprised 153 people who were individuals identified as close contacts to positive cases, and one who had returned from a high-risk area (Import B).
On the overall summary of the 183 cases, SDMC said 96 involved screenings of individuals who had contact with positive cases with five of them showing symptoms, 57 involved screenings of persons in existing active clusters with five detected symptomatic, 20 were other screenings at health facilities with four detected symptomatic, nine were symptomatic cases screened at health facilities, and one had returned from other states in the country and the case was categorised as Import B.
