KUCHING: Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg received visits from Persatuan Persaudaraan Melayu Betong-Sri Aman, Universiti Utara Malaysia’s (UUM) Professional and Continuing Education (Pace) and Dewan Bahasa dan Pusaka (DBP) at his Wisma Bapa Malaysia office here.
Persatuan Persaudaraan Melayu Betong-Sri Aman discussed development plans for a piece of land provided by the state government as the association’s activity centre, yesterday.
Association president Dr Zulwali Kifli Merawi told reporters that the visit was also to express thanks for the Chief Minister’s support.
Meanwhile, UUM’s Pace delegation, which was led by director Professor Madya Dr Halim Mad Lazim, was to inform Abang Johari on its plan to offer more long-distance education courses in the state.
The final courtesy call was from DBP director-general Datuk Abang Sallehudin Abang Shukran on the launch of a Sarawak language dictionary this year.
He also mentioned that dictionaries of Iban and Melanau Baie languages would also follow suit alongside Sarawak folklore publication.
The publications aimed to enhance the understanding of the people of Peninsular Malaysia and Sabah in Sarawak’s culture and folklore.
