MIRI: Thick haze was expected to return to Miri yesterday after nearly a month recording moderate air quality level.

According to Miri Fire and Rescue department chief Supt Law Poh Kiong, the forecast was made following an aerial view conducted by the Bomba Air Unit using the MI-171 helicopter on Tuesday.

“Three active hot spots were detected during an aerial view check held Tuesday,” revealed Law.

The hot spots identified were an estate area nearby Miri Airport (the fire has damaged at about 100 acres of the area); a piece of land nearby Eastwood resort where 80 acres were reportedly destroyed by fire due to open burning activities; and a forest fire in Kuala Baram.

Law added that Bomba will continue to monitor the situation.
