MIRI: Three individuals, including two women and a man, were injured in a two-car collision involving a four-wheel drive (4WD) and a sport utility vehicle (SUV) today.
The accident which occurred near Jalan Pan-Borneo, Simpang SOP Gelasah, involved a Toyota Hilux and a Mitsubishi ASX.
The impact caused both vehicles to plunge into a 10-foot ravine along the Pan-Borneo Bintulu road, leading towards Miri.
Firefighters from Batu Niah rushed to the scene after receiving an emergency call at 7.50 am.
According to the Fire and Rescue Department, the rescue operation lasted approximately one hour.
Upon arrival, firefighters, equipped with complete personal protective equipment (PPE) and a stretcher, worked to free two injured individuals from the Toyota Hilux and one injured person from the Mitsubishi ASX.
The victims were stabilised with cervical collars before being extricated from the vehicles and transferred to a safe location.
The injured passengers from the Toyota Hilux were handed over to an ambulance team from Suai, who transported them to Suai clinic for further treatment. Meanwhile, the driver of the Mitsubishi ASX was taken to Bintulu Hospital.
Police officers were also present at the scene to assist with the investigation into the collision.
The conditions of the victims are currently not known.
