SIBU: Narcotics police here arrested three local men for alleged possession of substance worth RM5,600 along Jalan Pahlawan on yesterday (Feb 27).

Sibu district police cheif ACP Zulkipli Suhaili in a statement, said the arrest took place around 7.45 pm behind a hotel.

The team detained three males aged between 25 and 32 for inspections as they were suspected of being involved in substance abuse activities.

“It led to the discovery of a plastic packet containing crystalline substance believed to be methamphetamine.

“The drugs weighing at 56.32g and is valued around RM5,600 was seized as evidence,” he said.

Zulkipli added that all three suspects have tested positive for drugs and each of them had prior records related to the substances.

They will be remanded for seven days to facilitate investigations under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries the death penalty, upon conviction.

In addition, all of them will also be investigated under Section 15(1)(a) of the same Act, which provides for a fine up to RM5,000 or a jail term of up to two years or both. They will be also ordered to undergo and a two-year supervision under Section 38B of the same Act.
