JULAU: Three out of four men involved in a recent case of provocation against a politician here have been found positive for drugs.
Julau OCPD DSP Andam Sulin said urine screening tests were conducted on all suspects.
“Three of them tested positive for benzodiazepines and ketamine.
“Urine samples were sent to the Malaysian Chemistry Department, Sibu Branch, for analysis. The analysis results of all three urine specimens from the suspects were positive for ketamine,” he said in a statement on today (March 15).
All three were charged under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 in the Sarikei Magistrates’ Court on Friday.
“The Magistrate imposed a fine of RM2,500 or three months’ imprisonment and they shall immediately undergo the imposed punishment, which is supervision under Section 2 of the Drug Addict (Treatment and Rehabilitation) Act 1983 for a period of two years on all three suspects.
“They chose to pay a fine of RM2,500 with a local guarantor.
“In addition to these charges, one of the suspects had previously been charged and sentenced for another offence, which is causing injury,” DSP Andam explained.
The Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) has urged the public to refrain from actions that may lead to undesirable incidents.
PDRM will take firm action based on existing laws to ensure the welfare and safety of the public in line with the mission, vision, and objectives of the force.
Earlier, on Feb 11, the Julau District Police Headquarters received a report from the politician regarding the provocation incident.
The investigation found that one of the suspects had pushed the politician’s supporter, causing him to fall and sustain a ‘Soft Tissue Injury’ at the back of his head.
On Feb 12, around 6pm, the Criminal Investigation Division of the Julau District Police Headquarters successfully arrested all the suspects.
