MIRI: Three men, including one foreign national, have been detained by the Miri Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division on suspicion of drug trafficking for the local market.

The arrests occurred during two separate raids conducted on July 30.

The suspects, aged between 32 and 46, were apprehended with a total seizure valued at RM21,545.20.

Miri Police Chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu reported that the two local men were detained following an inspection and raid on a vehicle in the city area.

During this operation, the police seized several Erimin 5 pills.

Subsequently, another raid was carried out at an apartment in the Tanjung Lobang area here.

Subsequently, the police arrested a foreign man and confiscated liquid drugs suspected to be marijuana (210 ml) and a transparent plastic packet containing dry leaves, also suspected to be marijuana (4.70 grammes).

All three suspects are currently in custody and will be remanded to assist in the investigation.

The case is being investigated under Section 39A(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries a penalty of imprisonment for a term of not less than two years but not more than five years, along with mandatory caning of between three and nine lashes.

Additionally, the case is also being investigated under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which provides for a fine of up to RM100,000, imprisonment for up to five years, or both upon conviction.

The Miri District Police have urged the public to report any information related to drug trafficking activities to their nearest police station to aid in curbing such illegal activities.
