KUCHING: Sarawak recorded three new Covid-19 positive cases again on Wednesday (Oct 7).
With the new cases, the State Disaster Management Committee, in its daily statement on Wednesday (Oct 7), said the total cases statewide were now 724.
The committee also disclosed all three cases were imported cases recorded in Kuching, Sri Aman and Bintulu.
“Case 722 involves a civil servant in Sri Aman.
“He tested positive for Covid-19 on Oct 6 after a random Covid-19 test upon his arrival at Kuching International Airport. He had returned via Kuala Lumpur International Airport 2 (KLIA2) on Oct 3 after holidaying in Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya and was instructed to undergo quarantine at his house.
“The case did not show any signs and symptoms and had no history of travelling abroad. But he regularly travels to Pahang via Kuala Lumpur and is now in the Sarawak General Hospital for further treatment,” said the committee.
Case 723 involves a local man flying from Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA1) to Kuching International Airport on Oct 3.
“The case was picked for random rT-PCR Covid-19 tests on arrival at the airport. He tested positive on Oct 6,” added the committee.
SDMC said investigation, based on the information from eHealth Declaration system, revealed the case had a history of travelling to Kota Kinabalu, Sabah.
“From the record, he returned from Sabah on Sept 26 via Miri Airport. The case also underwent a Covid-19 test upon arrival and tested negative on the same day,” it added.
The man also failed to declare his travel to Sabah after arriving from Kuala Lumpur.
“He did not show any signs and symptoms and has been admitted to Sarawak General Hospital for further treatment after testing positive for Covid-19,” said the committee.
On Case 724, SDMC said it involved a local man working in Tawau, Sabah.
“The case returned to Bintulu via a transit flight from Tawau to Kota Kinabalu and arrived at Miri Airport on Sept 27.
“The man then continued his journey by land from Miri Airport to Bintulu to visit his family,” it added.
Before returning to Sarawak, SDMC explained that the man went for a rT-PCR Covid-19 test at a private laboratory in Tawau, Sabah on Sept 24. Because the test was negative, he was allowed to enter Sarawak.
“The case tested positive for Covid-19 on the tenth day at Bintulu Health Clinic on Oct 6. The case also did not show any signs and symptoms and has been admitted to Hospital Bintulu for further treatment,” said the committee.
It added the state recorded four new person under investigation (PUI) cases while one case was awaiting laboratory test result.
“There is one new recovery and discharged case. The case was discharged from Hospital Bintulu, bringing the total recovery cases to 684 or 94.48 percent.
Meanwhile, the total number of Covid-19 patients receiving treatments in hospital isolation wards has risen to 21 cases.
Eleven cases are in Sarawak General Hospital, six cases in Hospital Miri, three in Sibu and one in Bintulu.
Kuching today became a green zone again after no positive Covid-19 cases were reported in the district for the past 14 days.
SIbu and Lawas remained as yellow zones. So far, the state has recorded a total of 19 deaths due to the pandemic.
