SIBU: Three persons aged between 20 and 43 have been arrested for allegedly having in their possession 6,250 cartons of contraband cigarettes and 1,340 boxes of beer worth a total of RM1.3 million.
Sarawak Marine Police acting commander Supt Abdul Rahman Mat Hassan said the suspects were arrested during an operation codenamed Ops Landai conducted at 8.25am on Aug 5 on a store in Lorong Ding Lik Kong.
“The seizure is the biggest so far this year,” he said during a press conference here yesterday.
Abdul Rahman said that the items were brought into the state using a vessel.
“We are always conducting operations against illegal activities especially on smuggled goods. Members of the public can also inform us at telephone number 082-334111 should they have knowledge of such activities,” he added.
The case is investigated under Section 135 (1)of the Custom Act 1967.
