KUCHING: Bintulu recorded three new positive Covid-19 cases on Sunday (June 21), bringing the total number of positive cases in the state to 569.

According to the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), cases 567th and 568th were linked to the Kidurong, Bintulu cluster which involved family members and close contacts to case 566th.

“This brings the total cases linked to the Kidurong cluster to eight so far,” it said in a statement.

It added case 569th involved a 29-year-old man who had a travel history to Mexico since February this year.

“On June 9, the case returned to Malaysia, using a flight from Mexico to Japan and then arrived in the country the next day.

“A Rapid Test Kit (RTK) antigen conducted on the man in Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) was negative and he was subsequently quarantined at Tune Hotel.

“On June 14, he arrived in Bintulu and was sent to Parkcity Everly Hotel to continue his quarantine.

“The sample taken on June 20 came back positive for Covid-19 through reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (rtPCR) test,” it explained.

SDMC also said there was no new recovery case. So, the Covid-19 cases which had recovered and been discharged remained at 535, or 94.02 percent.

Currently, there were 17 cases undergoing treatment at hospitals, while the total Covid-19 deaths in Sarawak remain at 17. Only two districts — Kuching and Bintulu — remain as yellow zones.

SDMC also reported 18 new persons under investigation (PUI) cases while four cases were still awaiting laboratory results.

It added that the surveillance team had monitored 2,059 premises on Sunday (June 21) including supermarkets (351), restaurants (422), factories (23), banks (146), government offices (66), hawkers (22), public markets (107), places of worship (107), recreational places (53), construction sites (34), and others (728).
