KUCHING: The State Health Department has declared three new Covid-19 clusters in Bau, Bintulu and Sri Aman.
The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said on Sunday (May 2) the Sungai Tengah cluster was a community cluster involving a village at Jalan Matang, Bau.
“The index case is a 55-year-old local woman from a village. She was confirmed positive through an individual symptomatic screening test at Bau Hospital on April 24.
“The case is a housewife who attended a praying ceremony for a late family member from April 19 until April 21,” added the committee in a statement.
Active case detection discovered 22 new cases involving the cluster.
“Out of 175 individuals who were tested, 23 cases including the index case were positive, 110 were negative while 42 are still awaiting the lab results,” explained SDMC.
It added that all cases had been admitted to the Sarawak General Hospital and quarantine centres in Kuching and Bau for further treatment.
The village had also been put under enhanced movement control order (EMCO) to control the infections.
In Bintulu, the Sungai Sebemban cluster is a community cluster at Jalan Pesisir Kuala Tatau.
The index case is a 68-year-old local woman. She was detected through a pre-medical screening test on April 25.
“She was referred to a private health clinic after suffering from weakness of the whole body and had no appetite to eat.
“A targeted screening test at a longhouse discovered 20 more positive cases,” said SDMC.
It added out of the 59 individuals who were screened, 21 people including the index case were positive while 32 were negative and six more were awaiting lab results.
“Those found positive have been admitted to Bintulu Hospital and a quarantine centre for isolation and further treatment.
“The longhouse has been put under EMCO to control and stop the transmission of the virus,” said the committee.
The Sebujok cluster in Sri Aman is also a community cluster involving two longhouses in Sebujok and in Kaong Ili Skrang, Engkelili.
The index case is a 62-year-old local woman. She was detected through a symptomatic individual screening test in Betong Hospital on April 23.
“Targeted screening tests at two longhouses discovered 14 more positive cases,” said SDMC.
Out of the 163 individuals who were tested, 15 including the index case were positive, 21 were negative while 127 were awaiting the test results.
“Three cases have been referred to the Sarawak General Hospital while 12 cases have been admitted to quarantine centres in Sri Aman and Betong for further treatment.
“Close contacts with the index case also have been sent to quarantine centres for isolation,” said the committee.
Meanwhile, four clusters have ended. They are the Jalan Tanjung cluster and Jalan Tanjung Kidurong cluster in Bintulu, the Merpati cluster in Miri and the Ranajng cluster in Tanjung Manis.
Seventy-eight clusters are still active with 19 clusters recording 219 new cases.
