Three new Covid-19 clusters in Kuching, one in Saratok

KUCHING: The State Health Department declared three new Covid-19 clusters in Kuching and one new cluster in Saratok today (May 26).

The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), in a statement, disclosed that the Kampung Semerah Padi cluster in Kuching was a community cluster detected at Kampung Semerah Padi Fasa 1.

The committee said the infection was spread through social movements among family members, colleagues and social friends of the index case.

Meanwhile, the Jalan Sukma cluster in Kuching is a workplace cluster involving a housing development company at the Sukma Commercial Centre, Jalan Sultan Tengah.

The SDMC said the index case was a staff of the company who was detected through screening of symptomatic individuals at a private hospital on May 23.

“Case 42039 was registered as a Covid-19 case in the Samarahan district based on the place of residence. The case experienced and showed signs as well as symptoms since May 20,” the committee added.

The Akedemi Semariang cluster in Kuching involves a construction skills academy at Jalan Sultan Tengah.

The SDMC said the index case was a student at the academy who was detected through pre-entry screening after a break on May 17. He was confirmed Covid-19 positive the next day.

The Lubok Nitik cluster in Saratok is a workplace cluster involving the office and workers’ housing area of an oil palm plantation company at Lubok Nitik.

The committee said the index case was the plantation manager who was detected through screening of symptomatic individuals at the Saratok Hospital on May 17.

“It was found that three Covid-19 positive cases were friends of the index case who were screened on the same day,” SDMC added.

Meanwhile, the State Health Department has declared the end of the Tabuan Melayu cluster in Kuching after no new cases were detected or reported for the past 28 days.

Sarawak now has 87 active clusters and 14 of them have recorded 95 new cases.
