KUCHING: A total of three temporary flood evacuation centres have been identified to house flood victims in Kampung Sinar Budi, Desa Wira Lorong Si and Kampung Segong, said Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas.
Uggah, who is also the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) chairman, said one temporary flood evacuation centres had been set up in Bau and two in Kuching.
“I am quite pleased by the swift action shown by the Sarawak Civil Defence Force (APM), Welfare Department, Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) who were quick to provide assistance to the flood victims,” he said.
Uggah said that the flood victims were prepared to move to the flood evacuation centres despite leaving their homes.
“Food essentials have been prepared and we want to ensure children and families have their food supplies.
“Baby milk is necessary too for the babies, and this is why in another word we wish to provide the best possible service that we can,” he told reporters when met at the Kampung Sinar Budi Baru Community Hall on Friday.
Additionally, Uggah pointed out that food essentials and mattresses would be supplied to the flood victims along with a medical doctor to check if any patients are experiencing COVID-19.
He also said the water levels in Sungai Sarawak are constantly being monitored to make sure of any incoming flash floods.
“So far so good, through the (SDMC’s) operational room we are able to monitor and inspect the rain water levels,” he added.
Thus, Uggah said under the leadership of Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, the state government wanted to ensure the flood victims are well taken care of and experience good services provided.
