KAPIT: Tragedy struck yesterday after a three-motorcycle collision along Jalan Mujong, Ulak Tapang Balleh claimed three lives.
According to Kapit police chief DSP Rohana Nanu, the victims are locals aged between 15 and 23 years old.
The fatal accident came to light when a friend alerted one of the victims’ siblings at around 5.30 pm, stating that they were involved in an accident.
In response, a police team and the Civil Defence Force (APM) were deployed to the scene to investigate the crash.
“Our investigations found that the victims were believed to be riding their motorcycles towards Jalan Selirik, which tragically led to the collision.
“All of them were pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics and their bodies were taken to Kapit Hospital for post-mortem examinations,” she said.
Further investigations also revealed that all three did not possess a valid driving license.
Rohana stated that the case is being investigated under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
In light of this, she urged the public to obey the traffic laws and parents are advised to be ever-mindful of their children’s whereabouts as well as ensuring that they possess a valid driving license before operating a vehicle or riding a motorcycle.
