KUALA LUMPUR: Three senior current and former government officials have so far testified before the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) two-day proceedings related to investigations of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) refunds worth RM19.4 billion.
PAC chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ronald Kiandee said that those who testified on Wednesday were Royal Malaysian Customs Department director-general Datuk Seri Subromaniam Tholasy, former Treasury secretary-general Tan Sri Irwan Serigar Abdullah and Treasury deputy secretary-general (Policy), Datuk Siti Zauyah Md Desa, representing the Treasury secretary-general.
Meanwhile, former Second Finance Ministers Datuk Seri Ahmad Husni Hanadzlah and Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani will testify at the proceedings on September 25, he added in a statement yesterday.
“Other witnesses will also be called to provide clarifications with regard to the issue in ensuring that the on-going investigations are comprehensive.
“The PAC has not set any deadlines to formulate the investigation before presenting a report to the Dewan Rakyat,” said Kiandee.
He confirmed that the 13 appointed members of the PAC were MPs from the government and opposition, representatives (ex-officio) of ministries and departments such as the Finance Ministry, National Audit Department, Attorney General’s Chambers, Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission, Public Service Department, Accountant General’s Office and the Economic Planning Unit. – BERNAMA
