KUCHING: Sunway’s three public-listed companies namely Sunway Berhad, Sunway Construction, and Sunway REIT have clinched five awards at the 2024 National Corporate Governance & Sustainability Awards (NACGSA) recently.
According to a press statement, it said that all three Sunway companies were recognised for exemplary corporate governance and sustainability practices, winning the Industry Excellence Award in its respective categories – Industrial Products and Services, Construction, and Real Estate Investment Trust (REIT).
In addition to this, it stated that Sunway Berhad and Sunway Construction also received the Overall Excellence Award for demonstrating leadership in governance and sustainability – ranking among the top 10 companies out of 854 public-listed companies assessed in 2024.
“These accolades follow Sunway’s achievement as the Gold winner of Malaysia’s Best Managed Companies 2024 for sustained excellence in industry-leading performance, growth, innovation and commitment to sustainability.
“Sunway stands out as the only Malaysian conglomerate to have won this award by Deloitte Private for four consecutive years,” it said.
Meanwhile, commenting on the awards received, Sunway Group chief executive officer of Digital and Strategic Investments Evan Cheah said that these awards reflected Sunway’s firm commitment to the sustainability agenda and upholding integrity in all that the company does.
“At Sunway, communicating transparently, consistently and continuously with all our stakeholders remains key in driving our group-wide sustainability strategy and initiatives.
“Looking towards the next 50 years of Sunway’s growth, we remain committed in our pursuit of excellence and creation of long-term sustainable value for our stakeholders and businesses,” he said.
As Sunway celebrates its 50th anniversary this year, he stressed that the group remains committed to advancing the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and continues to align them with Environmental, Social, and Governance targets as part of the group’s corporate strategy and social responsibility.
For the record, NACGSA, organised by leading corporate governance advocacy organisation Minority Shareholders Watch Group (MSWG, evaluates Malaysian public-listed companies based on their governance, sustainability practices and transparency by integrating three key assessments, namely the ASEAN CG Scorecard (ACGS), the Malaysian Code on Corporate Governance (MCCG) and the Sustainability Scorecard.
