MIRI: Police on Sunday detained three men here who were suspected of to be involved in an armed robbery case in Centre Point Commercial Centre last Friday.
The suspects in their 30s were separately picked-up at Piasau Jaya and Permyjaya at around 6.30pm.
The arrests were made by personnel from the district’s crime prevention patrol unit following a report by a budget hotel employee.
The police also seized a machete, motorcycle and two helmets believed to be used by the suspects to commit crime.
“Early investigation revealed all three suspects have previous criminal records including drug abuse,” said sources.
In the incident at around 2.00am on Friday, two men wearing helmets and armed with a machete entered the hotel and threatened the complainant who was manning the reception desk. They then took several items on the desk including a computer before fleeing the scene on a motorcycle.
The suspects were taken to Miri Central Police Station to facilitate investigation under Section 395/375 of the Penal Code.
