DARO: A fun weekend leisure activity at Sungai Batang Lassa took a tragic turn as three teenagers were reported missing after being swept away by strong current yesterday (Oct 15).

The 13-year-old victims were identified as Herodias Enggung, Aldrin Gambang Allan Kiai, and Sebastian Oziel Seman Umpi.

It was reported that the three victims were enjoying a day by the river with two friends.

According to one of the witnesses, who did not join in the river bath, the three victims were suddenly swept away by the strong current.

Meanwhile, the fourth teenager managed to save himself and survive the incident.

Preliminary information indicates that at the time of the incident, the river’s conditions were low tide with cloudy water and strong current, at a depth of about five metres.

The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) promptly deployed firemen from Daro station to the scene, some 8km away, after receiving an emergency call around 6.37pm.
