KUCHING: A motorcyclist was killed after being run over by a Proton Wira in pile-up that involved three vehicles at Jalan Matang-Malihah last Saturday (Nov 21).

State Traffic Police chief Supt Alexson Naga Chabu said the incident occurred around 7.40pm when all three vehicles involving two cars and a motorcycle were travelling towards Malihah.

“The accident happened when the Wira car attempted to overtake a (Viva) car in front, crashing the front right of the other car.

“A motorcycle ridden by the victim identified as Joseph Aw, 58, was knocked from behind by the Wira car, causing him to crash onto the roadside,” he explained.

He said the victim sustained severe head injury and was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.

The body was taken to Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) for post mortem.

Meanwhile, the driver and passenger of the Viva car were reportedly unharmed in the incident.

Alexson said the Wira car driver fled the scene and efforts to track down the motorist are currently in full swing.
