MIRI: Police have arrested two local men and a woman on suspicion of drug trafficking following a raid on July 10.

In a press statement, Miri police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu stated that the suspects, aged 37, 38, and 21, were detained at 7am during the operation.

A search on the suspects led to the discovery of three types of drugs believed to be syabu, ecstasy, and Erimin 5, with a total weight of 114.98 grammes.

He said the total value of the seized drugs were estimated at RM1,690. Additionally, police also confiscated a car valued at approximately RM100,000.

The case is currently being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries severe penalties.

“If convicted, they could face the death penalty by hanging or life imprisonment, along with a minimum of 12 strokes of the cane,” Alexson explained.

The suspects were brought to Miri Court for a remand application to facilitate further investigation.

Alexson urged the public to report any information regarding drug activities to the nearest police station to curb and eradicate such activities.
