KUCHING: Local residents at Batu Kawa gave their approval to the Batu Kawa waterfront project.
Abdul Wahad, 67, originally from Pahang, a retired policeman and a current member of Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) who has been living here since 1973, gave his support to the project.
“Of course, I would support this project. When there is a good leader leading us and taking care of the benefits of the people, and when the project was approved by him, I would definitely support it,” he elaborated.
Bong Ah Shui, 70, a construction company owner, also gave his thumbs-up to the project.
“Our leaders have been doing a good job so far. There have been a lot of changes around this area, especially the Moyan area, where there are thousands of houses. Besides that, there are also a lot of infrastructure being provided over the years like the electrical grid, water supply and roads.
“The Chinese temple here has been enlarged too. Hopefully with this project, it will turn into another landmark that attracts tourists to this area,” he added.
Meanwhile, a wife of a local shop owner who has been living in the area for seven years, Liew Nyuk Chin, 34, expressed her gratitude towards the project.
“I welcome the launching of this project because I believe that this project would put this area on the map and let it be known by the masses, whether it be the people from out of town or the tourists.
“Additionally, it would also help the local businesses around this area to prosper,” she added.
