KUCHING: Many Sarawakians applauded and supported the decision of the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) to impose the conditional movement control order (CMCO) again in Kuching district due to the rising Covid-19 cases.

New Sarawak Tribune found that many agreed that the CMCO was necessary even though it would affect their work and the social-economy in the district.

SDMC chairman, Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas announced the decision to impose the CMCO on Saturday. It will be on from Nov 9 until Nov 22.

“The CMCO is appropriate because the Covid-19 cases in Kuching district are increasing.

“Imposing the CMCO again can reduce the number of cases and can ensure the safety of the people in Kuching”

Leandro Mcrae

Leandro Mcrae (executive secretary)

“It is good to impose the CMCO on Kuching district again. We can lessen the risk of Covid-19 infections. “Everyone has to work together to stop the spread of the virus in the state. Let’s take care of each other.”

“I am worried but as long as we’re safe, we can make it together. The CMCO might be hard for some businesses but if this is the only way for us to stay safe, we have to do it.

“I am very satisfied with the restrictions.”

“The CMCO is good in order to contain further spread of the virus.

“This decision also encourages more employers to allow employees to work on a rotation basis or from home. It allows businesses to continue operating and helps those who earn daily wages.”

Rachel Remus

Rachel Remus (assistant surveyor)

“The CMCO is necessary due to the increasing number of cases here. Otherwise, many people will still be out and about.

“I’m satisfied with the restrictions applied. Stopping at roadblocks to go to another division for work might be a challenge but nevertheless, we have to follow the standard operating procedures (SOPs) to combat this virus together.”

“We need the CMCO as we are now approaching the ‘third wave’ of Covid-19. However, I’m not happy with the restrictions because we have been doing so well in the fight against the virus. Now, it feels like we’re back to square one.

“I want to urge everyone to help break the Covid-19 chain. The frontliners are tired and so are we!”

“The CMCO is for the benefit of everyone. Our health is at stake. However, it is a painful time for those struggling to put food on the table.

“Hopefully, in few weeks’ time, we will be able to live our lives normally (with SOPs applied) — we can go to work, travel or send our kids back to school.”

“The SDMC is doing a great job in controlling the spread of the virus. I am also ready if the government decides to impose stricter restrictions.

“The CMCO will limit my daily activities and movements from one place to another but in order to break the Covid19 chain, we need to follow the SOPs.”

“If the CMCO is best for us, we, as good citizens, should respect it. I’ve adapted to this new norm. So, it won’t make much difference to me.

“However, I wish people are more responsible. There are still some people who just don’t care about the SOPs. Let us be cautious whenever we are in public places. Protect ourselves, our families and friends.”
