KUCHING:  Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah has applauded the decision by the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) to relax the conditions for fully vaccinated individuals wishing to enter Sarawak.

On Saturday, the committee said there was no need for these fully vaccinated individuals to undergo Covid-19 screening or apply through EnterSarawak.

The Tourism, Arts, and Culture Minister said yesterday (Oct 17) the relaxation showed the compassion of the state government and the SDMC for its people.

“With this, I would like to thank Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg and the SDMC even though the decision only applies to Sarawakians for the time being.

“I was told there were many Sarawakians who wanted to come back to their hometown or go to the Peninsular to meet their loved ones.

“The relaxation of the conditions for now is for Sarawakians only but I am sure in a month or two, it will be non-Sarawakians’ turn following an improvement in the Covid-19 situation,” he added.

Abdul Karim also reminded those who wanted to enter Sarawak to comply with the standard operating procedures (SOPs).

“We don’t want the relaxation to cause another problem since the virus is still around,” he added.
