Youth leaders agree the coalition must be protected from ‘termites’
KUCHING: It is now time to consilidate the strength of Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) and to work with Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari, not for self interest but for the sake of Sarawak, and to protect the Land of the Hornbills and its people by all means.
This was the view of Youth Wing members of Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) after the chief minister made a statement of not allowing “termites” to chew the party from inside at the launch of Marudi Waterfront project on Wednesday.
Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Youth chief Gerald Rentap Jabu said what the chief minister meant was that GPS should protect its party both in and out.
“Termites are destructive insects; the damage can be detrimental to the whole building structure. The exterior may look good but it is rotting inside. This is what Abang Johari meant, that GPS should protect both the interiors and exteriors from any pest attacks,” he told the New Sarawak Tribune here today.
Rentap said this is in line with the view taken by the current leadership in safeguarding Sarawak and putting ‘Sarawak First’.
“We must not let self interested people cajoling our honest efforts and yet building colonies to disrupt and destroy from within,” he stressed.
When asked whether the chief minister was hinting the message to Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB) led by its president Datuk Seri Wong Soon Koh, Rentap did not give a yes or no answer but said, “It is (referring to) anyone with other agenda. A united Sarawak commands respect. A divided Sarawak, everyone is at a disadvantage.”
Meanwhile, Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Youth chief Michael Tiang said he agreed with the chief minister who used terminates to describe some characters within the alliance government, and therefore like termites found at our home, they should be eliminated at all costs.
“As the chief minister said these ‘termites’ are out to destroy GPS therefore these people can never be trusted. And talking the ‘termites’ into behaving themselves in GPS is definitely not an option as it will never work,” he said.
Tiang continued by saying that in the past SUPP also had ‘termites’ that divided the party instead of promoting unity, and they had either been sacked or left on their own.
“If other parties take them up, that is not our concern. But if those rejected termites are plotting to join GPS so as to divide us, we will do everthing necessary to make sure they are out of GPS,” he pointed out.
Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) Youth chief Datuk Snowdan Lawan on Thursday, said those ‘termites’ that the chief minister referred to or implied, are told to leave and should not overstay.
“Abang Johari’s speech reflects his seriousness that unity within GPS was of utmost significance and should be preserved without compromise.
