KUCHING: Sarawak needs to be brave to change and take advantage of existing strengths so as not to fall behind in global economic developments.
Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said it is time for Sarawak to step forward from among other states and become a catalyst for economic growth in Malaysia.
Towards this end, he stressed that collaboration between the Sarawak government and government-linked companies (GLC) is an important strategy to achieve goals based on the Post Covid-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030.
“We must work as a team to develop Sarawak and must have the same direction.
“If we unite to lift Sarawak, we will be strong in the Malaysian federation,” he was quoted as saying in an Ukas report during the closing of the 2024 Leadership Forum in Langkawi on Sunday (Jan 28).
According to Abang Johari, the forum is highly encouraged to bring together interested parties to share views and ideas as well as to identify opportunities for cooperation in managing the state well.
“That’s why we are here in the hope that we can form cooperation based on PCDS 2030 and indirectly foster unity.
“I want everyone to take note and know what the Sarawak government is working on,” he added.
At the forum, Abang Johari had the opportunity to participate in a dialogue session to hear questions and views from the participants.
The forum was jointly organised by Petroleum Sarawak Berhad (Petros), Sarawak Energy Berhad (SEB) and Sarawak Center of Performance Excellence (SCOPE).
Among the topics presented are PCDS 2030, Progress and Prospects of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for Malaysia and Sarawak, Sustainability and Climate Action Leadership and the Renewable and Circular Economy.
