AS Sarawak marks its 61st Independence Day celebration, state leaders shared their hopes and wishes, reflecting on Sarawak’s journey and future.

They highlighted the progress Sarawak has made, from improving social well-being and eradicating poverty to striving for a high-income economy and free tertiary education.

They also emphasised the need for unity, continued support for visionary leadership, and collective efforts to safeguard rights, enhance cultural richness, and ensure environmental sustainability.

With a shared vision of progress and prosperity, they aspire for all Sarawakians to work together towards a brighter future for the state, especially in achieving Sarawak’s goal to become a developed state by 2030, namely:.

Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department (Corporate Affairs, Information, and UKAS) Datuk Abdullah Saidol

I hope all young and future generations of Sarawakians embrace the tenacity, courage, and determination of our past and current Sarawak leaders and excellent fellow Sarawakians to diligently move forward into the future towards building a better Sarawak in all aspects for all Sarawakians, especially in the rural areas.

Minister of Women, Childhood, and Community Well-being Development Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah.

My aspiration for Sarawak is for the Sarawak Social Well-being Index to improve further from its current moderate status to high by 2026, to eradicate hardcore poverty by the end of 2024, and to achieve social inclusivity and equity for all.

Tebedu assemblyman Dr Simon Sinang Bada

My wish is for Sarawak to continue to enjoy peace and prosperity under the able leadership of Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, who has brought tremendous development to the state through various initiatives. Every Sarawakian should play their role to ensure our vision of a high-income economy by 2030 with a high employment rate and low poverty rate is achieved. I aspire to see that Sarawakians of all races, religions, creeds, and beliefs continue to live in peace, harmony, and unity.

Political Secretary to the Premier of Sarawak Kho Teck Wan

I wish everyone a happy Sarawak Independence Day. Let’s take the day to reflect on where we were in 1963 and where Sarawak stands today. With great progress under the visionary leadership of Abang Johari, I am confident Sarawak will emerge as one of the most progressive regions in Malaysia. I urge all Sarawakians to remain united and work together to build an even better, more harmonious, and prosperous Sarawak.

Deputy Minister of Public Health, Housing, and Local Government Datuk Michael Tiang

I hope that Sarawak will continue to prosper under the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) government and under the leadership of the Premier. Sarawak has embarked on a bold and brave journey towards the dream of becoming a high-income state by 2030. This journey is not easy, but because of the unity and stability we have, the government is able to propel Sarawak towards that dream at a fast pace. My aspiration is that all Sarawakians, especially the youth, will see Sarawak as the land of opportunity to discover their talents, build their careers, and create their own brands, so that they are proud to be Sarawakians.

Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department (Law, MA63, and State-Federal Relations) Datuk Sharifah Hasidah Sayeed Aman Ghazali

I want to wish all Sarawakians a happy Sarawak Day. We are all blessed to have Sarawak as our motherland, a land that has given us so much abundance and resources that we, as Sarawakians, are collectively obliged to take care of and guard. I am glad our leadership under the Premier continues to ensure our rights and Sarawak are not only safeguarded but that Sarawak will continue to grow and progress. Challenges will be inevitable, but I hope this Sarawak Day will remind us all that we must be united, stand firm behind our Premier, and continue to pursue the best for Sarawak and Sarawakians to ensure economic and financial stability, a better quality of life, cultural richness, religious freedom, diversity, political stability, and environmental sustainability. Happy Sarawak Day to all Sarawakians.
