SIBU: Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) new face, Clarence Ting Ing Horh is hoping that his good track record in both Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) and Sibu Rural District Council (SRDC) will help him secure the Sibu Parliamentary seat.
The 63-year old Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Pelawan branch chief said that he has served the people under SRDC for 10 years from 2003 until 2013 and was appointed SMC chairman in 2019.
“I have shown my report card and I hope the people will give me a chance to serve them as a member of parliament for Sibu…… I will take my experiences of 10 years in SRDC as a guide.
“I know SRDC Bawang Assan very well even though I’m in SMC, I was in SRDC from 2003 to 2013, so the area is not a stranger to me,” he said when met by reporters after the nomination at Sibu Islamic Complex, yesterday (Nov 5).
Ting said his strategy for GE15 is to visit the SRDC area first and then the town area.
“I will go to SRDC first because that is the area I’m not serving now, then I will come back to town again, this is my plan,” he said.
When asked by a reporter whether he will be focussing on national issues in his manifesto Ting said that he will campaign according to the GPS’s manifesto.
“I’m a GPS candidate. We are Sarawak first, we are going in as a group and then I will let the GPS leader decide how and from there at a national angle but I have to win first,” he said.
Ting also said that he has full support from all the GPS component parties from three state constituencies under the Sibu parliamentary seat namely Bawang Assan, Pelawan and Nangka.
“They give me full support. Michael Tiang (Pelawan assemblyman) and SUPP Pelawan secretary and Datuk Dr Annuar Rapaee (Nangka assemblyman), we always work closely together… we always discuss all sort of things,” he said.
Ting hoped voters in the Sibu parliamentary constituency would give him a chance to be their MP so that he could voice out issues on Sibu in Parliament.
“I know it gonna be a tough fight you see I have a very formidable opponent, incumbent Oscar Ling (DAP) and Datuk Seri Wong Soon Koh (PSB president). Both of them are very seasoned politicians and I am just starting off.
“Everybody is guessing whether I would come out or not. This is what I mean by a last-minute candidate. Anyway, it doesn’t matter I’m out now, I’m seriously reaching out to the voters. Give me a chance,” he stressed.
