SIBU: GPS candidate for Sibu, Clarence Ting Ing Horh, has come up with a six-point personal manifesto as he continues his push to win over the people.

The six undertakings cover youth development, health care, education, developing Sibu’s basic infrastructure, the transformation of ‘West Bank’, and developing Sibu town.

On youth development he pledged to ensure Sibu youth will have fair and equal access to various government financial assistance provided by federal government agencies for their business ventures and talent development.

“If I am elected, I will fight alongside GPS to restore the education autonomy as enshrined in MA63 where the English language will be more prominently used in schools.

“I will fight for funds to repair about 23 dilapidated schools so that students can have a better and conducive environment to study,” he said in a press conference on the manifesto launching on Sunday.

As for infrastructure, he wants to improve federal roads which include Jalan Deshon, Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman (Airport Road), and develop a new road from Jalan Sungai Bidut to Empawah.

“We must do the airport road as it is the face of Sibu, this is for the visitor… many Sibujaya residents have been complaining that (travelling using the airport road to the city centre) now takes longer due to its poor condition.

“The other one that I put in my manifesto which I think is very crucial to the development of Sibu is the Jalan Sungai Bidut to Empawah road … Sentosa before was just a kampung area. However, when the road came in now it has developed to what it is today,” he said.

Ting noted that he is also supporting GPS in restoring and defending the rights and privileges of Sarawak  and in ensuring the state has administrative autonomy over healthcare.

“I want to expand the accessibility and quality of health services, especially for the elderly, people with disabilities, and children in Sibu. Furthermore, I will establish both Cardiac and Oncology centres in Sibu,” he said.

The Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) Chairman also envisions bringing more federal funding to transform West Bank into a new township that offers a rejuvenating environment that is modern yet close to nature.

Touching on a pledge to develop Sibu town, he said he would seek more federal funding for the beautification of the Sibu landscape, expanding the 5G coverage, internet services, and quality of water supply, upgrading the drainage systems, and constructing new monsoon drains.

The fund he seeks will also cover clearing the rivers and drains, and repairing, maintaining, and upgrading the fire hydrant systems.

“This morning the newspaper published again that the 5G coverage is only for Kuching, Miri, and Bintulu. If I am elected you think I will stay quiet? Of course not, this is so important for everyone in Sibu, particularly young people.

Hence, Ting appealed to voters to give him a five-year chance so that he could fulfil his manifesto.

“I am honoured to be a GPS candidate for the Sibu seat. I have in a short time come out with this manifesto. I pledge (to fulfil) this to all voters as it is very important for the constituency.

“Give me a five-year chance to work out these matters (manifesto). I hope the people will vote for me on Nov 19,” he said.

Ting faces a three-cornered fight against incumbent Oscar Ling (Democratic Action Party) and Datuk Seri Wong Soon Koh (Parti Sarawak Bersatu).
