BINTULU: Two longhouses here had received some food supplies and essentials on Friday, flown in by the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) from the Labuan Air Base via helicopter.

The longhouses, namely Ugop Umpin longhouse and Saba Mergi longhouse, were cut off from food supply due to the 14-day movement restriction imposed on the residents to curb the spread of the Covid-19.

The aid mission was a joint venture between the Sarawak Social Welfare Department represented by Bintulu MP Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing and the defence ministry.

The mission involved an EC 725 AP helicopter that was piloted by Major Megat Suhaide Megat Daud, assisted by Captain Shamie Hazim Samsu and with four other officers.

A total of 2,880kg of food supplies and necessities such as rice, sardines, instant noodles, eggs, diesel oil, sugar and salt, were collected at Bintulu Airport and delivered directly to longhouses.

The mission which involved two flights started at 10am and ended around 1pm.
