KUCHING: Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) Central Publicity and Information Secretary, Adam Yii Siew Sang, expressed strong support that Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) should not contest in the upcoming 13th Sarawak election in 2027.
Yii echoed the sentiment expressed yesterday (July 31) by Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Vice President Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah.
He believes that to maintain the harmony and stability of the Federal Unity Government, not only should Sarawak PKR withdraw, but the entire Sarawak Pakatan Harapan (PH), including the Democratic Action Party (DAP), should also stay aside from the upcoming election.
Yii pointed out on a statement made by Sarawak DAP chairman Chong Chieng Jen after the Sheraton Move on February 29, 2020, where Chong expressed willingness to refrain from participating in the Sarawak election for the sake of national interest.
Yii emphasised that since contesting will not lead to staying in the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) government, Chong should lead his team to withdraw completely to maintain the stability of the Unity Government, thus keeping his word.
“Prime Minister and Finance Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim recently announced that as of April this year, national debt had increased by RM50 billion, bringing the total debt to RM1.225 trillion.
“It is noted that at this juncture of economic recovery, long-term political stability is essential and imperative,” he said.
He further highlighted the Sarawak government’s commendable economic performance in recent years, attributing these achievements to Sarawak’s political stability, the foresight of GPS leaders, and the seamless cooperation among its member parties.
He praised GPS for proving that collaborative efforts and pragmatic leadership can bring about national stability and continuous development, contrasting this with the political hostility in Peninsular Malaysia, which he claimed leads to social divides and turmoil.
Thus, he reiterated that the Sarawak DAP should forgo the upcoming Sarawak election for the good sake of stability of the unity government, and allowing Prime Minister Anwar to effectively lead the country out of the financial crisis.
