KUCHING: The Sains Toastmasters Club (STMC) held its installation dinner cum anniversary celebration at Hilton Hotel here, recently.

Its chief executive officer Dr Anderson Tiong, District 87 director Wong Toh Hee, Division D director Donna Barclay and other distinguished Toastmasters, members and guests were present at the installation of the incoming club officers for the 2019-2020 term and to celebrate its fifth anniversary.

Themed ‘Stay Inspired’, the event was graced with motivating speeches, a cake cutting ceremony, a video presentation, a sumptuous dinner, live singing and a table topic session.

At the event, Dr Tiong mentioned the importance of self-confidence and personal growth through speaking, communication and leadership skills in Toastmasters Club.

He was delighted with STMC’s achievements since its inception in 2014.

He then extended his gratitude to the outgoing club officers who have served diligently and also congratulated the newly appointed ones and ended his speech with the quote, “may the force be with you”.

The new president of STMC, Gloria Kelbin thanked the past presidents for their support, leadership, encouragement and motivation and she promised to strive, improve and live up to the achievements of the club.

“STMC aims to provide its member with a friendly and safe environment where they can grow to become better communicators and leaders in their professional and personal lives.

“Toastmasters is a place for people ‘to inspire and be inspired’,” she said.

STMC has won several distinguished Toastmasters international awards such as the President’s Distinguished Club Award, Select Distinguished Club Award and Shooting Star Award.

The newly installed club officers for STMC are Gloria Kelbin (president); Bernard Breamer Adam (vice president — education), Louis Kueh Fung Yen (vice president — membership), Mohamad Syafiie Ahmad (vice president —public relations), Agnes Tan Choon Yen (secretary), Edmund Chang Kok Lin (treasurer) and Liew Jak Cun (sergeant at arms).

Toastmasters International is a worldwide non-profit educational organisation that empowers individuals to become more effective communicators and leaders and has more than 350,000 members in over 140 countries.
