KUALA LUMPUR: The exemplary leadership skills shown by the late Sarawak Chief Minister Pehin Sri Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem, fondly known as Tok Nan, continue to be an interesting topic for discussions and  research.

This was pointed out by Professor Datuk Seri Dr Syed Arabi Idid and Dr G. Manimaran during the “Program Bicara Buku” organised by  Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) Publisher at Kuala Lumpur International Book Fair at the World Trade Centre yesterday (May 30).

Both speakers are the authors of a book entitled Menjuarai Pilihan Raya: Magis Kepimpinan Adenan Satem published by UNIMAS Publisher.

In their book, the authors analysed the issues during the state election in 2016 and how Tok Nan’s leadership skills  contributed to the landslide victory in his first election as the Chief Minister of Sarawak.

According to Manimaran, the word ‘magis’ in the title of the book reflects a figure, a leader and a person who is always far-sighted and that aptly described the late Tok Nan.

“The magic of his leadership touched so many Sarawakian lives and despite his short tenure as Chief Minister, he will always be remembered for his contributions to the people and the state of Sarawak,” he said.

Meanwhile, Syed Arabi said the book was written based on four surveys, interviews and focus group that he conducted while collecting information for the book.

“From the data collection, I found that his popularity continues to increase and even the opposition is saying good things about Tok Nan.  His leadership style which was inclusive, reformed-oriented, and people-centric made him a respected and most beloved leader in Sarawak,” he said.

Both authors concurred that Tok Nan’s charisma and approachability had contributed to his ability to establish a solid relationship with Sarawakians.

This book also emphasises Adenan’s traits and style of leadership, which are comparable to those of several outstanding national and international leaders.

Also present during the programme were UNIMAS Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Ahmad Hata Rasit, UNIMAS Publisher director, Malia Taibi, Datuk Amar Jamilah Anu and her daughter, Azizah Adenan.
