TOKYO: The management of Tokyo Kosaien Nursing Home has expressed their willingness to share their expertise with Sarawak and collaborate on elderly care programmes.

This was proposed during an official visit by Minister for Women, Early Childhood, and Community Wellbeing Development Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah, who led a delegation to the Tokyo Kosaien Nursing Home in Mitaka City, here yesterday (Oct 18).

During the discussion, the Sarawak delegation explored potential collaborations, with both parties expressing optimism about future partnerships in elderly welfare programmes.

They have also offered assistance to the Ministry to draw from their extensive experience in elderly welfare services.

The nursing home, established in 1956, is part of a social welfare corporation founded in 1955. Over the years, the institution has become a pioneer in community-based elderly care, offering services such as day care, nursing care, and home visits.

Tokyo Kosaien’s mission is to provide high-quality, compassionate care that respects the wishes and needs of elderly individuals, ensuring they lead peaceful and fulfilling lives.

A key aspect of Japan’s elderly care model includes a mandatory nursing care insurance system, which citizens begin paying at age 40 until they turn 60.
