MIRI: A 15-year-old grave robber was caught red-handed vandalising and digging up one of the graves at a Roman Catholic cemetery yesterday morning in Riam here.
The suspect was apprehended by members of the public at 8am and was handed over to the police for investigation.
According to sources, five other suspects, including the boy’s uncle, managed to flee the scene upon realising a group of people approaching, leaving the juvenile behind.
The boy is remanded in police custody for questioning.
Sources added, the juvenile and five of his accomplices, believed to be relatives, have been involved actively in grave robbery for the past three years.
They were said to have been living adjacent to the cemetery.
