KUCHING: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has arrested four individuals over the suspicion of their involvement in giving and receiving bribes worth millions of ringgit.
Those arrested are two civil servants including a government department director, a company owner and a trust investment manager.
According to MACC sources, the male suspects aged between 30 and 50 were arrested at about 7.30 pm yesterday (Oct 10) at the MACC office when they were asked to appear to give evidence.
“The main suspect is suspected of receiving kickbacks from 2018 to 2021 from a company owner in return for helping the company secure two projects involving water supply amounting to approximately RM44.4 million.
“The trust investment manager was arrested on suspicion of receiving cash bribes and property on behalf of the main suspect,” the sources added.
Meanwhile, MACC Special Operations Division director Datuk Tan Kang Sai when contacted confirmed the arrest and said investigations were conducted under Section 17(a) of the MACC Act 2009.
He said the suspects will be brought to the Kuching Magistrate’s Court today for a remand application.
