KUCHING: The women’s chief post and other top positions within the main party and youth wing of Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) will not be contested at the party’s Triennial Delegates Meeting next week, said its women’s chief Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah.
“Our party, as the backbone of Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS), remains firm with the decision made that the positions of president up to the deputies are not contested, including the Women and Youth Wings as well.
“That is our decision because the party comes first and we want it to be strong and stable,” the Minister of Women, Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development, reiterated when met at her ministry’s office here yesterday (June 10).
Fatimah added that since the country had just entered into the transition to endemic phase and in the process of recovering, the party wanted its president Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg to continue occupying the presidential seat and to lead it.
“This is what is needed for us to achieve the objectives of the Post-COVID-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030 in order to become a fully developed state by 2030.
“We also want to ensure that what was promised in the manifesto in the last Sarawak Election is fulfilled as well as to ensure that Sarawakians can return to the situation before COVID-19 in terms of economic and social well-being,” she said.
The PBB Triennial Delegates Meeting will be held at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) from June 17 to June 19.
