KUCHING: Sarawak explored opportunities for tourism collaboration with three regions during the 18th East Asia Inter-Regional Tourism Forum (EATOF) general assembly in Tuv, Mongolia, on Wednesday.
Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Ministry (MTCP) said talks with Tuv (Mongolia), Yogyakarta (Indonesia) and Gangwon (South Korea) focused on joint tourism promotion, air connectivity, and cultural exchange.
“The bilateral talks with Yogyakarta centred on developing geotourism initiatives, promoting cultural exchange, and economic benefits for local communities,” the ministry said in a statement.
Discussions with Gangwon highlighted geotourism and Sarawak’s Post COVID-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030, which the ministry said is a model for sustainable growth.
Gangwon also expressed interest in golf tourism, the S-MM2H programme, edu-tourism, and the Rainforest Youth Summit (RAYS).
The Sarawak delegation was led by MTCP Minister Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, Deputy Minister Datuk Sebastian Ting, Permanent Secretary Datuk Sherrina Hussaini, and Principal Assistant Secretary Dr Suzie Lim Swee Yian.
The Tuv Province, Yogyakarta Special Region, and Gangwon State delegations were headed by Governor Munkhbaatar Demberel, Vice Governor Paku Alam X, and Vice Governor Jeong Kwang-yeol, respectively.
