KUCHING: After a three-year hiatus due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the Bidayuh community will celebrate its historical and cultural festival Bung Bratak Day in a grand manner on May 1.

Bung Bratak Heritage Association (BBHA) chairman Datuk Peter Minos said festival will be celebrated by Bidayuhs across Lundu, Bau, Kuching and Serian.

The community in Lundu will celebrate the occasion with their ‘Weh Jonggan’ Salako cultural dance and music while the Opar group from Bau, Penrissen/Padawan group from Kampung Benuk, and the Gahat Mawang cultural team from Serian will come up with their own individual shows.

“This festival will be a full and complete Bidayuh community cultural festival with Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Minister Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah officiating it,” he said in a statement today.

Minos urged the public to attend and enliven the festival which will be held at the hilltop of the Bung Bratak Heritage Centre.

“The festival is open to everyone! There will be various Bidayuh cuisines on sale on that special day and there is no entrance fee.

“This is one cultural festival that one must not miss as the joy and glamour of the festival will be held at the ancient settlement of the Bidayuhs.

“Its history will be re-lived and revived on that day,” he said, assuring that a four-wheel transport will be arranged for those who are not able to trek up the hill.
