BAU: The Fairy Cave here will be a driving force in the tourism industry of this town, once a gold mining haven.
Serembu assemblyman Miro Simuh said once restoration and upgrading works on facilities at the cave were done, the Fairy Cave would be a major tourist attraction.
“Hopefully in July 2020 when it re-opens, it will be with an upgraded look.
“It will be the driving force in the tourism industry in Bau,” he said at the Fairy Cave Festival 2019 here last Saturday.
Miro said that the cave was presently out of bounds for 18 months to enable restoration and upgrading works to be carried out by the Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC) with allocation from the state government.
The Serembu assemblyman said he had spent millions under his Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) to develop tourism products in the constituency.
Among the tourism products were the popular Siniawan Night Market, Paku hot spring and Mount Serembu Eco-Park which was being developed as a community-based tourism (CBT) product.
“These projects are being implemented and we need funding from the state government,” he said.
Various activities including sales of local handicrafts, food and drinks were held during the 3-day Fairy Cave festival from July 26 – 28 and attracted many local and foreign visitors.
