TEBEDU: Cross-border trade is expected to get going following the reopening of the country’s borders on April 1.
Local assemblyman Dr Simon Sinang Bada said the opening of the Tebedu Immigration, Customs, Quarantine and Security (ICQS) Complex would revive socio-economic activities between Sarawak and Indonesia.
“The outbreak of Covid-19 in the last two years impacted the activities at ICQS following the closure of the border.
“We were briefed that the collection of revenue during the period was nought,”he told the reporters at the Tebedu Community Hall here on Thursday (March 10).
The local community here will therefore be able to resume socio-economic activities with the reopening, he said.
He said all visitors or individuals who enter Sarawak through the border would be required to undergo a health screening.
“On the standard operating procedure (SOP) for the opening of the border, the matter would be determined by the Ministry of Health (MOH) and the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC).
He hoped the people will extend their fullest cooperation during the border opening, given that the country is still at war with the Covid-19 pandemic.
“Although we have achieved herd immunity we still expect the public to adhere to the SOPs set by the government,” he added.
