KOTA SAMARAHAN: A wet market with 100 booths at Aiman Mall and 60 stalls at the Batang Samarahan bridge will be rented to traders at a very reasonable price, said Kota Samarahan Municipal Council (MPKS) chairman Datuk Peter Minos.

According to him, the booths were built by MPKS as they wanted to avoid traffic congestion arising from roadside vendors.

“We also take into account the safety factor of traders and the public,” he explained.

He added that they (MPKS) also planned to build up to 80 stalls in Kampung Tambirat, Asajaya to accommodate existing traders along the village main road.

Speaking on another issue, Minos said MPKS will take decisive action on traders who do not pay their stall rent by revoking their licences.

In this regard, he said there were a handful of traders in Bandar Riyal, Kota Samarahan only doing business on certain days and not as full-time as in the agreement.

“Some 192 business lots have been set up in Bandar Riyal where 21 lots have been rented out to traders but some of them are less active in business.

“For those who are less active, they cannot release their stalls to others as they still have active licences and make rental payments as usual,” he said.
