KOTA SAMARAHAN: Seven traders in Samarahan Division have been “empowered” under a programme called Solar-Powered Trading Kiosk.

All this while, these traders had no electricity at their stalls, but under the federal-funded programme, the first of its kind in the state, electricity is no longer an issue.

With the solar power system, their stalls are lighted and machines and appliances needed for trade will run on electricity.

Under the programme, each of the traders is allocated RM20,000 –  RM15,000 for a solar system, RM4,500 for appliances and RM500 to finance his motivational course and financial literacy.

Six of the selected traders, all of whom are registered under the e-Kasihprogramme, are operating under Kota Samarahan Municipal Council (MPKS) and one under Simunjan District Council.

e-Kasih gives heads of families, mothers in particular, the chance to do business to help contribute to the family income.

The symbolic presentation of the empowerment package was made by Kota Samarahan MP Rubiah Wang yesterday.

“I hope the recipients will use the assistance well and be successful in their undertakings,” said Rubiah yesterday.
According to her, the recipients will be monitored by MPKS for one year to record their success and the impact of the project on their overall performances.

Rubiah was accompanied at the event yesterday by MPKS chairman Datuk Peter Minos, among others.
