KUCHING: People agree that Chinese representation is crucial in government.
And towards this end they are all for Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) chairman Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg’s call on the community to support SUPP in the coming 12th state election so as to represent them in government.
The Chinese business community, for instance, appears set on backing candidates fielded by the GPS, of which SUPP is a component party.
Businessman Chai Im Teck, 58, said he fully favoured SUPP president Prof Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Kian who is also Batu Kawah incumbent assemblyman.
“I am supporting Datuk Sim as I think he is a very good leader and I am confident that he will win in the coming election.
“I also agree that there should be more Chinese in government and the candidates must know how to carry out their duties responsibly.
“Datuk Sim is a very strong contender and I am very sure that he will win,” he said.
“If it is good for the people, then why not?,” said shop owner one Madam Kong who is in her 60s.
“I cannot really tell who I will vote for now though … I will cast my vote on who is contesting in my area.”
Eighty-year-old businessman, Mr Yeo, took a more general view, saying all that mattered was for politicians to work responsibly for the people in Sarawak.
“I support everybody and even the opposition, DAP, is a good party if they work hard for the people,” he said.
