KUCHING: A unique festival focusing on traditional food, music and arts titled The Hearth Brought to Light: Food Over Fire’ is scheduled to be held from Nov 25 until Dec 4 at Old Court House and Dec 2 to Dec 4 at Fort Margherita here.
Organised by What Matters, in collaboration with Brooke Heritage Museum, International Music House and Karuna, the festival will be bringing together the performing artists, artisans, and the Heirloom culinary cooks that are being shown in a different light.
Creative director cum curator of the festival, Marian Chin said that the festival is about bringing back the reverence and relevance of the performing artists as well.
“The grandmasters like Matthew Ngau, Salomon Gau, the Ringed Ladies and Edmung Ngau alongside Nading Rhapsody are just some of the key performing artists who will be part of the programme,” she said.
She said this during a press conference on the upcoming festival at Old Court House here yesterday (Nov 23).
Marian added that the festival was to ignite the fire in each of the people on the urgency to preserve the traditions.
“Like the custom called “chelap dapur” for a hearth to not let it “grow cold” in our lives, so to speak,” she said.
Shethen added that she was looking forward for the people to come to the festival which will be full of exciting programmes and activities happening throughout the event.
The 10-day festival will include theatres at The Fort, food demonstration, craft making, live exhibitions and storytelling and more.
