KUCHING: The remaining two traffic lights projects along the Kuching-Samarahan expressway will face a slight delay in completion, said Kota Samarahan Municipal Council (MPKS) chairman Datuk Peter Minos.
As of late, Minos said many have been asking on the traffic light projects at the expressway which have not yet been completed and he said such delay is due to the state government wants Sarawak Metro to speed up the implementation of the Autonomous Rapid Transit (ART) project in Kota Samarahan.
“There will be a slight delay in completion, we in MPKS were told. The government wants Sarawak Metro to speed up its Autonomous Rapid Transit (ART) project and so has requested the contractor for the traffic lights project to help out.
“We in MPKS fully understand and support the decision and move and want the ART project to be done and completed soon.
“If the job at the traffic lights is fully completed by the end of this year, we in MPKS and Samarahan will be most happy. And if the ART project at Kota Samarahan is fully completed by the end of 2025, we will be happier still,” he said in a statement today (June 29).
With the ART project being the first of its kind in the state, Minos said it will be a cause for jubilation, knowing the convenience it will bring to the people in Samarahan and the public at large.
He said with many big public and private sector projects coming up in Kota Samarahan, it is indeed a busy and exciting time for MPKS in this fast-growing town.
“That is why we really want the ART to be done and completed, along with the traffic lights project, the sooner the better.
“A second wave of development is awaiting us all in Kota Samarahan and that is surely a cause of jubilation,” he said.
